Muddy Sneakers’ fundraiser features author Jay Leutze

On Aug. 19, Muddy Sneakers board member Aleen Steinberg hosted a ‘Charleston Dinner’ fundraiser in Cedar Mountain, NC. The guest speaker was former Muddy Sneakers board member and acclaimed author Jay Leutze from Roan Mountain, NC who read from his most recent work, Stand Up That Mountain.

Leutze, a strong advocate for conservation in NC and current board member for the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, wrote this true story about the fight he helped lead to save an adjacent mountain near his home in WNC. The mountain marked a prominent view from the Appalachian Trail that was at risk of being lost to a gravel mining operation. Leutze enthralled the audience with his readings, each highlighting the colorful characters he partnered with in this fight and the their strong connection with the landscape. The event was a great success raising over $15,000 for the 2012-2013 Muddy Sneakers program. Get your copy of Jay’s book!
