Darlene Fiscus

Darlene Fiscus has called Durham and the Triangle home for more than a decade and remains deeply invested in the strength and vitality of the community. She holds a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and brings a long-standing commitment to improving quality of life through community-centered work.

Darlene has built her career in the nonprofit sector around program development, collaborative relationship-building, and fundraising to achieve meaningful outcomes. She began her professional journey with United Ways in Northern California, where she worked in fundraising, community collaboration, and grantmaking. Over the past ten years, she has served as Director of Development and Communications at organizations including Eno River Association, Teach For America, Animal Protection Society of Durham, and Compass Center for Women and Families. She currently serves as Director of Development for NeighborHealth Center in Raleigh. Known as a community builder and fundraising leader, Darlene drives revenue growth through clear communication and strong, trust-based relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Darlene’s deep respect for the natural world shapes her commitment to environmental protection and conservation. She believes that fostering wonder, joy, and care for the outdoors in young people remains one of the most effective ways to protect and restore the environment for future generations. Through board service with Muddy Sneakers, she looks forward to advancing environmental education and stewardship in service of that vision.

Darlene Fiscus is a member of Leadership Raleigh Class 51 and the Association of Fundraising Professionals and previously served with the Rotary Club of Durham. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, cooking with her husband, reading, and visiting local farmers’ markets. She also enjoys spending time outdoors with her three herding dogs, hiking, swimming, and playing frisbee.
