Nicholas Koebley, also known as Bald Eagle or Nature Nick, brings his passion for the outdoors and love for teaching to Muddy Sneakers. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Nicholas now calls Asheville, North Carolina, home. Since his college days, both the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains have been his playgrounds and a source of inspiration.
With a bachelor’s degree in high school education, focusing on science from the University of Dayton, Nicholas quickly discovered the transformative power of education outside the classroom. His environmental education work in New York sharpened his skills in teaching topics like edible plants, geology, birdwatching, and forestry.
His love for nature took a new direction when he became a wilderness therapy backpacking guide, where he learned to integrate the healing power of the outdoors with mental health. Having experienced firsthand how nature can change lives, Nicholas is committed to sharing this life-saving connection with others.
Leading outdoor trips is where Nicholas Koebley finds the most joy, especially when he teaches participants to observe and understand the patterns of the Blue Ridge Mountains. His mission is to make the outdoors more accessible, encouraging everyone to take their newfound knowledge home to their own backyards. Nicholas looks forward to exploring and discovering the wonders of the Blue Ridge Mountains with each new adventure!
