Observing Forces and Motion in Nature

Observe and Record Forces and Motions!

What kinds of forces and motion can you identify in the world around you? You can make observations through the window, in your backyard or neighborhood, or even in your bedroom. Bring a journal and share what you find… nature is full of motion!

We know from Sir Isaac Newton that “an object will remain at rest, or continue to move at a constant speed, unless acted upon by an outside force.” What forces are acting on objects outside your home?

Find your favorite moving object and observe what kinds of forces and motions are involved. Your object can be anything, even your pet! Record or draw as many observations in your journal as you can. Is your object being pulled by gravity? Pushed by the wind? You could even use some arrows to show the direction of that push or pull!
