Squirrels in Motion!

On a Muddy Sneakers Forces and Motion Expedition, students conduct an experiment to calculate the average speed that a stream flows. To do this, they build boats out of natural materials then race them down the stream! Afterward, they use the data that they collected during this race to calculate the speed of their boats, and thus the flow of water.

One of our very own Field Instructors, Bugsy, created a fun experiment similar to the boat race, but instead of calculating the flow of water, she observed the speed at which squirrels scurry around her yard! Check out the video below to watch how Bugsy conducted this experiment and follow the instructional guide and worksheet to test the speed of squirrels in your own yard!
