Naturalist and educator Carlton Burke lives in Mills River, NC, where he operates an educational service called Carolina Mountain Naturalists, which specializes in presenting live animal and nature programs for area schools, summer camps, and many other organizations. Carlton was also on staff for more than 25 years as the Curator of Exhibits at the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville, NC. He is also a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator and can be heard each Saturday morning co-hosting “Nature News,” a local, hour long radio program, featuring news from the natural world around the WNC region which has been airing now for more than 30 years! Carlton is one of the a founding instructors for the Blue Ridge Naturalist Certificate program at the NC Arboretum in Asheville, teaching a variety of nature classes, field trips, and workshops and is also a local musician who sings and plays acoustic guitar either solo or as a duo with their group called “Old Men of the Woods”.
