Born in Durham, NC, Jonathan spent most of his life living in coastal South Carolina. At 15, he began a career as a professional musician. After touring for 25 years in more than 30 countries, Jonathan decided to focus on his family and teaching. In 2001, while looking for a summer camp for his daughter, he encountered the Green River Preserve. Joining the camp staff first as a music teacher, he quickly realized a love for teaching and learning with children in the outdoors, and became a mentor (GRP nature hike leader). Although already attracted to Muddy Sneakers for its sharing a similar teaching philosophy to GRP, it was in 2018 while participating as a parent chaperone for his sons on several Muddy Sneakers expeditions that he became determined to join the team. When not working at GRP or Muddy Sneakers, Jonathan can be found playing music, reading, and exploring nature with his own children.
