Field Instructor

Chelsea Byrne is a New Jersey native with deep ties to North Carolina. Growing up in south New Jersey, Chelsea was running barefoot through the Great Pine Barrens, delighting in wild blueberries and telling scary stories at the edges of the cranberry bogs. She would frequently carry her camera out to the woods where she would spend hours hiking and exploring the areas in her own back yard.

She would vacation in Salisbury in the summer, staying with her aunt and exploring the piedmont area before going back home to the swamp marshes and thriving marine life of her seaside hometown.

On the weekends she would spend time with her Abuela in Jersey City, where her grandmother kept a flourishing garden in the courtyard of their family’s row home. They ate from the garden daily, and Chelsea loved harvesting cucumbers and watercress from the garden and bringing them to the dinner table.

As a teen and young adult, chelsea traveled the country (and a couple other countries too!) Learning about different cultures, eco systems, and nature trails left her excited for a life of constant curious exploring!

Chelsea got her teaching bug in 2013 when she became a Spanish instructor and outdoor exploration specialist with a small private pre-school held on 11 acres of farm land. She taught preschoolers the joy of art with twigs, how to be a forest with yoga, and developed a music and nature based Spanish curriculum for the school.

Chelsea wants to spread the joy she feels while being outside on to the next generation. She is currently pursuing her North Carolina Environmental Educator certification and hopes to educate children on our role in the local environment, our impact on the planet, and connect the gap from farm to table for students and curious individuals.

In her down time, you can find her on the trail with her trusty River Rover, Rocko. Her and her partner take every day as an adventure and love exploring the parks and waterfalls of NC, sitting by the bonfire with a good book, or dancing to some oldies while she bakes some tasty treats!
