Jenkins, a native of Atlanta and Thomasville, Georgia, brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to community well-being as a valued member of our board. With a diverse background spanning medical practice, community service, and a passion for the great outdoors, Morris embodies the spirit of lifelong learning and stewardship.

Morris’s journey in medicine began at Emory University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degrees. He further honed his skills through residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, setting the stage for a remarkable career spanning 41 years. As a family practice and hospice physician, Morris served communities in Calhoun, Georgia, Christchurch, New Zealand, and eventually settled in Brevard, North Carolina, alongside his wife Molly.

During his tenure on the medical staff of Transylvania Regional Hospital from 2009 to 2024, Morris made a lasting impact on patient care and community health. His dedication extended beyond the confines of the hospital walls, as evidenced by his service as Chairman of the Gordon County, GA, Board of Health for an impressive 27 years.

In retirement, Morris continues to be an active force for good in Transylvania County and beyond. He lends his expertise and leadership to organizations such as the Transylvania County Library Foundation Board and the Sparkpoint Board.

Beyond his professional and philanthropic endeavors, Morris finds joy and fulfillment in pursuits that feed his adventurous spirit. He is an avid cyclist, hiker, and musician (skilled in the upright bass) who enjoys a little friendly competition with a game of duplicate bridge.

At the heart of Morris’s diverse interests lies a steadfast belief in the transformative power of outdoor education. He recognizes that the best classroom is often found in nature’s embrace, where lessons are not just learned but felt in the rhythm of the seasons and the whispers of the wind. His advocacy for outdoor education aligns perfectly with our mission, as we strive to awaken a deep connection to the natural world in the hearts and minds of our students.
